Update 10/06/20 - NEW ZEALAND

We did it! New Zealand are stoked to be at Alert Level 1, our hostels are welcoming guests across the country just like the good old days, so release your wanderlust! We are following all Alert Level 1 precautionary measures to make sure all staff and guests are safe as!  Please download the Goki app as your room key to be COVID safe! Please let us know if we can help with your travel booking, or if you have any questions. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you soon!

We want you to know that although we're open things aren't quite 'normal'. All of our hostels and bars have social distancing and other measures in place and we want you to feel and be as safe as possible during your stay with us, so we ask you to adhere to the Government guidelines with regard to COVID-19.

How we're keeping you safe

Contactless Check-in Download Goki so that you can use your phone as your room key. Goki can also be used to extend your stay and message staff without having to visit reception, so you can safely keep your distance.

Hand Sanitiser We provide hand sanitiser that you're encouraged to use.

Wash Your Hands Regularly washing your hands with soap and water is important and we have signs up to remind you of this.

The 1.5m rule We request that you stay at least 1.5metres away from other people. There are markings in reception and communal areas to help us all adhere to this.

Rooms Our rooms are at 50% occupancy. Meaning an 8 bed dorm will only have 4 people in it so that you all have more space. Most of our hostels have private rooms if you'd prefer your own space. Please enquire about availability.

Housekeeping Our housekeeping staff are working hard to keep everything clean. They focus on high traffic areas and surfaces which are likely to be touched often.

Common Areas Some common areas in some hostels may be out of use, but for those that can be safely used please keep your distance from other people.

Our Bars We want you to have fun but please follow the instructions from our bar staff. The number of people allowed in our bars is limited and we ask that you remain seated as per official guidelines.

We know these times are strange but we all have to work together to get through this. Our staff are on hand to answer any questions you might have. Please be aware that things will be slightly different at each hostel depending on its location and its size. You'll be given location specific guidelines to follow when you arrive at any of our properties or bars but as a general rule the above measures are currently in place to keep you, our staff and other guests safe. The official guidelines are constantly updated and so things can change daily. Please be patient with our staff who are doing everything they can to follow and to communicate these guidelines.

Since Tourism Adventure Group (Base Backpackers, Nomads and United hostels) first started, we've been led by one key objective; make sure our guests are creating lifelong memories in a safe and clean environment. This is what we'll continue to strive towards despite the current COVID-19 pandemic and want you to be aware this mantra is at the forefront of all our decisions.

We know that for many of you, the plans to travel have been long in the works and your trip of a lifetime may have taken a sharp turn since this current crisis reared its head. We are constantly monitoring the National and Local Health agencies advice, advice from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as continuing to follow the guidance of government health officials. From this advice we have implemented a number of strategies that we believe can take away as much stress from your stay with us as possible. We are still open and here to help you experience this amazing part of the world.

Domestic travel - arrival prior to 15th March

If guests are travelling domestically there is currently no requirement for them to self-isolate, meaning you can be accommodated in normal dorm rooms, however we will be taking the appropriate steps to reduce the number of people staying in each dorm as best practice.

International arrivals from 15th March

For international arrivals into Australia and New Zealand after the 15th March, you will be asked to self-isolate for 14 days by the New Zealand or Australian Government. You will need to contact the property in advance if you are arriving from an international flight and have not yet satisfied the self isolation protocols and the property will pass on necessary information for you.

If you have any questions about your upcoming booking please contact us via email and one of our team will be in contact, please keep in mind that our teams are dealing with a large volume of enquiries at the moment but they will be in touch as soon as possible. If you have booked through a travel agent, please contact them directly for advice regarding your options so that they can assist you with your booking.

We are thinking of all the people that have been affected by this event and have incredible appreciation for our healthcare workers and governments around the world who are taking unprecedented steps to protect our global community.

Safe travels, the team at Base Backpackers
