You've probably already heard of Bondi Beach. You're less likely to have heard of Coogee Beach, and extremely unlikely to have heard of the other beaches found on the Bondi to Coogee Walk. We strongly recommend heading to Bondi Beach in the morning and spending a leisurely day heading towards Coogee Beach. Make sure to take in the spectacular views on the way and stop at all the beaches for a dip in the sea, a bit of a snorkel or even for a BBQ lunch or a refreshing beer in one of the pubs.

Bondi to Coogee Walk

The walk is often split into two parts. The second half being a bit tougher so if you're not good with steep steps then maybe just stick to walking from Bondi to Bronte.

Bondi to Bronte

After spending a bit of time at Bondi Beach head towards Bondi Icebergs Club and Notts Avenue. You'll find a concrete walkway along the waterfront which will take you around Mackenzies Point and then onto Mackenzies Bay before shortly arriving at Tamarama Beach. Follow the coast until you get to Bronte Beach.

  • Bondi to Bronte is around 2.5 kilometres of easy walking with just a few steps to navigate.

Bronte to Coogee

From Bronte Beach head south to join up with the boardwalk that takes you past Waverley Cemetery. There are some benches along the way to stop and take in the views. When the boardwalk ends you've arrived in Clovelly. We recommend a short stop here to re-energise because the next part of the walk is the toughest bit. Cliffbrook Parade is steep but it will get you to Gordons Bay, which is only accessible via foot. It's now just a short distance to get to Coogee Beach after walking through Dunningham Reserve.

  • Bronte to Coogee is around 3.5km with some steep steps.

Bondi to Coogee Walk Beaches

1. Bondi Beach

The most famous Sydney beach and in fact one of the most famous beaches in the world. One drawback is that it's always fairly busy due to it's fame, but it's still worth visiting especially if you're a surfer. Bondi Icebergs at Bondi Beach is the starting point of your cliff top coastal walk in Sydneys eastern suburbs.

2. Tamarama Beach

The first beach you come to on the Bondi to Coogee walk is Tamarama Beach. It's a very small beach but is great for experienced surfers. Tamarama is also known as Glamarama beach because of the hotties who hang out here. Tamarama Beach is even better to visit during the Sculpture by The Sea exhibition which happens annually during October / November.

3. Bronte Beach

Next up and only a few hundred metres from Tamarama is Bronte Beach. Bronte beach is small but has lots of BBQ space in the park, making this a perfect spot for lunch. You should also check out the rock pools and maybe even go for a swim in the saltwater pool. Don't miss the spectacular views from the cliffs.

4. Clovelly Beach

Head further along the coast and you'll arrive in the small beach-side suburb of Clovelly. It doesn't look very pretty if we're honest as the sides of this narrow bay are concrete. This does make it a good sunbathing spot though. It's a great place to swim and snorkel and there's also a 25 metre saltwater pool.

5. Gordons Bay

Gordons Bay is located just 10 minutes walk away from Coogee Beach. It's a beautiful secluded beach which again is fantastic for snorkelling.

6. Coogee Beach

After taking in the spectacular views and beaches on the 5.3km Bondi to Coogee Walk you'll arrive into this chilled out coastal suburb which has a lovely broad sandy beach. Coogee Beach is popular with families because of the safe swimming and calm surf but it's also a bit of a hotspot for backpackers. There are some lovely historic buildings and relaxed bars to visit on the promenade. My recommendation is to get yourself some fish and chips before heading back to town.
