Wellington rolling out the Red Carpet for the Hobbit premiere on the 28th November!
Preparations for the world premiere party in Wellington are already well underway. Director Sir Peter Jackson will be joined on the red carpet by members of the film’s cast for the premiere which kicks off early afternoon on Wednesday 28th November. Stars and VIPs will walk more than 500 metres of red carpet from Reading Cinema to The Embassy Theatre which is opposite Base Backpackers Wellington. Even if Sir Ian McKellen, who plays Gandalf in the films, will not attend the premiere of The Hobbit: an Unexpected Journey, the most recent addition to the Middle Earth celebrations is larger than life... A once 'in a life time event' that can’t be missed!
To mark the film's much-anticipated premiere in Wellington, a giant statue of Gollum - the creepy cave dwelling creature played by British actor Andy Serkis - has been installed in the city's airport terminal, looming above the waiting passengers below. A whopping thirteen metres long and three metres high, the giant sculpture of Gollum attempting to catch fish with his bare hands could come as something of a shock to weary or jet lagged visitors!
From the Air NZ in flight magazine on every domestic flight featuring Martin Freeman to the Hobbit-themed safety video, it's all about Sir Peter Jackson's film.
From hundreds attending the stalls at the Artisan Market in Waitangi Park, the mood is definitely one of Tolkien and celebration. Those wanting a refresher course on the Lord of the Rings trilogy got their wish with all three of the films being played over successive nights, culminating in the premiere at the Embassy Theatre.
The Embassy Theatre itself is currently besieged by people taking pictures of the Gandalf the Grey sculpture over its front door, with both tourists and New Zealanders ensuring they have snapped a little piece of the Hobbit premiere.
An Unexpected Journey, the first part of Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy will be released in New Zealand on December 12 and December 26 in Australia.
