The Crave Sydney International Food Festival (1st-31st October 2012) – Australia’s biggest food festival!
This is something to get really excited about, some of the world's top ranking chefs come to Sydney for this event. It attracts more than 700,000 people for over 570 events during the month of October. This is where Sydney gets to show off its love and appreciation for all things food. A month long celebration in bringing Sydney home as a top notch dining destination. See the full program here.
Personally the Night Noodle Markets in Hyde Park is definitely the highlight of the festival. Each year for 13 nights (October 3-5, 8-12, 15-19; 5-10pm – FREE Entrance) Hyde Park North is transformed into an authentic Asian hawker-style market - for noodles, dumplings, desserts and more with fabulous food stalls, three bars and nightly entertainment (including the much-loved lucky Chinese lions) for a nightly street-food feast, right in the heart of the city and only 5 minute walk from Base Sydney.
Walk between stalls and pick and choose a variety of dishes to make up a complete meal (plates from $10). The food is delicious as it comes from some of Sydney's best Asian restaurants – Longrain, Mamak, Nu's, New Shanghai, Din Tai Fung and many more. Like a food court under the stars, with tables and chairs dotting the park, market-goers drink bottles of water and beer from plastic cups. See the Night Noodle Market map here.
The noodle market can get a little packed, what with all the people who have come from all over Sydney so get there early to avoid the crowds. The relaxed atmosphere is contagious and rather enjoyable. Sit back and watch live entertainment while you inhale your food! Overall, it's a great night out.
Make sure you also visit Growers' Market for the launch weekend of Crave Sydney International Food Festival and a very special Barbecue Madness day on Saturday 6th October. Located by Sydney Harbour at the picturesque Pyrmont Bay Park, it features more than 70 producers, stalls selling everything from fresh fruit and seasonal vegetables to lamb, beef, rare-breed pork and seafood. This year a bunch of celebrity chefs, will work their grilling magic with stallholders' fresh produce.
