Skyline Rotorua: Views, Walking Trails, Food & Luge07:33 AM on Fri 28 Feb 2014

When in Rotorua make sure you take a scenic cable car to Skyline Rotorua – you will only need 2 – 3 hours to snap up some great photos, take a cultural walk and experience the Luge. There are many packages to choose from depending on what you want to do – I suggest the Cable Car + 3 Luge Rides and you can buy these from Base reception.

The journey begins by taking a Cable Car to the top of the top of Mount Ngongotaha which sits 487m above sea level. The views are amazing – you can see the whole of Rotorua.

The Luge is Skylilne Rotorua’s main attraction. For those of you wondering what a Luge is, it is kind of like a toboggan. You control the speed and there are three tracks offering varying levels of difficulty. I suggest purchasing 3 rides as 1 is just not enough!

Once at the top – there is so much to do. Skyline Rotorua is a great place to get a snapshot of Rotorua and what the city is really about. There are various scenic walking trails to choose from, the longest taking 45 minutes return. As you walk throughout the trails, expect information boards and lookout points that offer cultural and historical information about Rotorua.

The Sky Swing offers an adrenalin rush with a view – you are seated in a swing that is pulled high above the ground by a cable and propelling you 150km/hr into the sky.

Wine Tasting is also an affordable option - $11.95 for 6 wine tastings. The staff that run the tours are hilarious and the scenery from the wine room is beautiful.

If hungry – I suggest heading up to Skyline Rotorua for a $25 Buffet All You Can Eat lunch – yum! Also – do not forget to pay a visit to the Jelly Belly Shop!
