Rip Curl Pro Surf Comp kicks off near Melboune 11:13 AM on Wed 16 Apr 2014

No Australian holiday is complete without some sort of Surfing experience. The 2014 Rip Curl Pro kicks off today at Bells Beach, Great Ocean Road, Victoria.

Since 1962 the surf comp has attracted the world's best surfers along with  hundreds, if not thousands of keen watchful eyes.

Ticket prices are $8 and the competition will run over Easter through to the 27th April. If you're in Melbourne and keen for a getaway, the best way to check out the world's best is to hire a car or campervan and incorporate a legendary surfing experience with your Great Ocean Road journey. Alternatively, Base Travel can organise a hop on hop off Great Ocean Road Tour option, or chat to the staff about public buses.

The sun is shining and the forecast looks fantastic for the next fews days - a great opportunity to check out one of Australia's best surf beaches.

Bells Beach is home to the surf side town of Torquay which is just over an hour from Melbourne.
