While Backpacking through New Zealand, people kept on telling me to keep a big portion of my budget for Queenstown!?!
OMG – I had no idea how wonderful Queenstown could be. As I came in on the Stray bus, we stopped for a Bungy jump at the Kawarau Bridge.
I took a hefty dunking in the water for my jump – the guy said the straighter you jump the more likely you will get lower into the water. He was overly right – I got soaked!
When we got back on the bus and headed into Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu was completely calm, and there were a bunch of wake boarders. I read in the adventure magazine that I could go out wakeboarding on the lake – what a dream result.
We arrived at our accommodation – Base Backpackers Queenstown. Our room was a special Stray room with 6 beds, an ensuite, a balcony, a fridge and table and chairs. Me and the girls had a couple of drinks, then went and organised my wakeboarding trip for the next day.
This chick Jax at the Base Travel desk was wicked. She completely sold Queenstown to us and gave us a rough itinerary so we could make the most of our time here.
While we were in Queenstown; we bungy jumped, had an afternoon wakeboarding, and went canyoning and luge riding up the gondola. Each of them was run by some crazy kiwis who say everything is “easy” and “sweet as” and “no worries”. Well all those things we did weren’t that easy – I was certainly pushing my limits with the canyoning jumping 12 feet off rocks.
The bar at Base Queenstown was also crazy and “sweet as” ;)
The Altitude Bar - There was a wet t shirt competition and jelly wrestling in a giant raft one of the nights. I think the photos speak for themselves. Had a mental night, shouldn’t have drunk so much tequila, but what the hell, I’m travelling.
I will miss New Zealand – you crazy kiwis
