My Fiji Trip09:02 AM on Thu 13 Dec 2012
After a 3 week wait the email I was wanting for finally came. I'd been offered a place and i was off to Fiji....... This was my first time to Fiji and I was rather excited.
The day finally came and it was off to Auckland International Airport. The 9 of us going on the trip had arranged to meet and all check in together and after a small set back of a 2 hour delay we were on our way. A 3 hour flight later we landed in Nadi airport where we were greeted by Tourism Fiji and Feejee Experience. Our first stop was a night on Robinson Crusoe Island, we jumped on the bus for an hour drive to the jetty to meet out connecting boat to the island. We were welcomed on to the island, showed to our rooms and it was straight to dinner. Tonight was the night we were all to experience out first taste of Kava. To me this looks likes dirty dish water and has a strange and very acquired taste but to the Fijians its amazing!!
Day 2, we had the morning to ourselves!! Most of us went out snorkeling, then it was a site inspection of the property and back on the boat heading for the mainland. The first activity for the day was sand boarding, this activity is exclusive to Feejee Experience. We arrived at Mango Bay resort, down on the coral coast later that afternoon only to be meet by the rain. We were shown round the resort, then sat down to an amazing dinner. We finished the day off with a game of killer pool and a few cocktails.
The following morning was a 5am start, we were back off to Nadi to catch the Yasawa flyer at 8.30am to begin island hopping. 45 minutes later we were at Bounty Island for the trade day. We had a quick site inspection of the resort and the trade day officially started. We stopped at two more islands today, Funky Fish Resort and Rata Kuni Resort before heading to the party island Beachcomber for the night.
We were back on the flyer the next morning cruising the Yasawa's. We were going to 3 islands again today, first stop was barefoot island were we spent about an hour touring the property and seeing what it has to offer. After that is was a short boat ride round to Manatray, were we spent the rest of the afternoon viewing the property and snorkelling. We jumped back on the flyer about 3pm, for a hour trip back down to Wayalailai Ecohaven Resort where we spent the night. Wayalailai has 3 villages on the island so the next morning before we left we were taken to the closest village for a look at how the local community live.
We were soon on our way to the last island on the trip, Octopus. We were greeted on to the island with cocktails and taken round the island for a viewing. After lunch we got a few hours to ourselves so we spent it snorkelling and getting some sun.
We were picked up by the boat about 3pm and was heading for the mainland. Once back in Nadi is was on the bus to Smugglers Cove. Tonight was out last night and we were going out in to Nadi town for a farewell dinner with the group from the UK. I think the sun got the better of me today as i was in bed pretty early feeling a tad ill!!!
The following morning it was in to Nadi town again for a morning of shopping round the local markets and shops before heading to the airport and back to reality.
